Just imagine if people of economic levels were limited to what they wear? As a female, especially in New York City I see trends from chic,to boho chic, to retro, to Vintage, and to Urban Fashion. Who influenced us to dress this way? The past is constantly repeating itself and styles and trends are even more creative each time! Can you believe that back in the 1600's there was Sumptuary Laws which were laws made for the purpose of restraining luxury or extravagance!!! In the Massachusetts Bay Colony, only people with a personal fortune of at least two hundred pounds could wear lace, silver or gold thread or buttons, cutwork, embroidery hatbands, belts, ruffles, capes, and other articles. Smh....People were actually arrested and charged for this nonsense! Thousands would probably be arrested in this modern day LoL. After a few decades, the law was being widely defied (to refuse to submit to or cooperate with). After society refused the law that's when certain styles were created. Pop goes the rise of the 1960s mini skirt , 1970s disco and punk style,1980'S Valley Girl style (Headbands,Cheerleading skirts, leg warmers),shoulder pads, neckties ,button down collars also made a return, both for business and casual wear. The preppy look also came into play in the late 1980's and the early 1990's.Preppy fashions are a classic and conservative style of dressing. Appreciate fashion, TAKE RISK, Love YOUR style, and embrace it =]!
